Overview

Our client is a trusted and well-established consultancy specialising in geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy services across a wide range of sectors covering the whole life of the project. They are looking for an ambitious and committed Senior Geotechnical / Geo-Environmental Consultant for their talented and experienced team to deliver geo-environmental and geotechnical expertise to diverse clients on varied and interesting projects. The ideal candidate will have over four years relevant industry background, strong technical expertise, and a proactive, team-focused approach.

Responsibilities

  • High familiarity with relevant standards, guidance and legislative background to the geo-environmental and geotechnical industry, helping to spread knowledge to junior staff
  • Implementing and maintaining health and safety standards business-wide
  • Conducting ground investigations involving various techniques, taking on the role of Project Manager for various schemes and delegating work to junior staff
  • Producing project fee proposals and tenders
  • Understanding commercial aspects of business and taking responsibility for project finances, with potential responsibility for invoicing projects
  • Developing client relationships
  • Checking and approving the work of junior staff including health and safety documentation, drawings, logs, calculations, factual and interpretive reports
  • Helping to produce guides, template masters, identify and develop tools to improve quality and efficiency
  • Mentoring junior staff
  • Interpretive reports including Phase I/II geo-environmental assessments, qualitative and generic quantitative risk assessments, ground gas assessments, and geotechnical assessments
  • Bespoke and complex technical assessments
  • Preparing outlines and detailed remediation strategies with knowledge of a range of remediation techniques
  • Undertaking remediation verification and reporting
  • Managing earthworks and materials/waste management including knowledge of MMPs under the CL:AIRE DoWCoP
  • Applying detailed knowledge of soil mechanics, determining characteristic values and calculation of foundation bearing capacities (shallow and deep foundations) and settlements
  • Liaising and negotiating with regulators
  • Complying with and assisting with updating/producing of internal policies and procedures within ISO standards

Requirements

Essential

  • Approximately 5 + years relevant industry background
  • Degree (2:1 or above) in relevant subject (geology, environmental science, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, physical geography etc.)
  • Excellent IT skills and highly competent with MS Office
  • Excellent problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to adapt, finding quick, innovative and practical solutions
  • A strong and exemplary work ethic, able to work effectively alone or as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence (manual transmission)

Desirable

  • Postgraduate degree or Masters in relevant subject
  • Chartered Status
  • Background with software packages such as AutoCAD, Holebase, Surfer, Geo5 etc.
