Overview

Cyber Operations supports safe care and builds public trust by empowering NHS England’s cyber resilience and enabling the wider health system to be cyber‑resilient. The Cyber Operations sub‑directorate comprises Cyber Operations Services (COS), Cyber Delivery, Cyber Improvement and the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This role sits within the COS team, a function of Service Integration and Ownership (SIO). SIO is primarily external‑facing, managing the portfolio of Cyber Services to the NHS system to help them manage cyber risk and resilience, underpinning patient service delivery.

Responsibilities

The Security Lead will provide system/service‑wide assurance to organisations, assessing and ensuring that they manage risks, practise good data security and comply with prescribed standards. The role also requires managing and developing a subset of the SIO portfolio, and leading a team to achieve objectives and foster personal development.

Qualifications

  • Have a good understanding of information security/governance frameworks and security operations.
  • Have a good understanding of the end‑to‑end management and enhancement of services, including management of third‑party providers.
  • Manage and support a subset of the portfolio of cyber services delivered by the SIO team to the wider NHS and their interfaces with dependent parties and operational processes.
  • Detailed understanding of what constitutes good and poor cyber hygiene.
  • Have a good understanding of the health and care system in England.
  • Have the ability to communicate complex concepts to audiences with limited knowledge of cyber security.
  • Be able to influence organisations to improve their cyber posture while maximising value from central services.

Other Details

Staff recruited from outside the NHS are usually appointed at the bottom of the pay band, and those with a contractual office base are expected to spend at least 40% of their time working in our offices. Successful candidates will participate in an Inter‑Authority Transfer via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR) upon joining.
