Lead Systems Engineer (Electrical Test) | 12-Month Contract

Are you a Senior or Lead Test Engineer with a strong background in High Voltage (HV) manufacturing environments? Do you excel at leading technical infrastructure, managing electrical safety, and driving New Product Introduction (NPI)?

We are partnering with a global leader in energy transition and engineering infrastructure to find a Lead Systems Engineer (Electrical Test) for a critical 12-month project based in Stafford.

Key Details:

  • Position: Lead Systems Engineer (Electrical Test)
  • Rate: £450 per day (Inside IR35)
  • Contract Length: 12 Months (Fixed Term: Jul 6, 2026 – Jul 5, 2027)
  • Location: Stafford (On-site)

The Role:

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Test Manager to deliver, scale, and improve the capability and capacity of cutting-edge test facilities for HVDC manufacturing. You will act as the technical authority for manufacturing test infrastructure, ensuring the highest standards of safety, facility bring-up, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Act as the technical authority and escalation point for day-to-day manufacturing test infrastructure and equipment breakdowns.
  • Infrastructure & NPI: Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) for test facilities, including requirements capture, machinery procurement, and updating test sequences.
  • Safety & Compliance: Serve as the custodian of safety within the test cells, utilizing risk assessments, FMEA, SSoW, and LOTO processes.
  • Supplier Management: Manage third-party suppliers and contractors for facility build, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Mentorship: Train and support junior colleagues, test technicians, and operators, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

What You’ll Bring:

Essential:

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing test facility design and implementation.
  • A degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong expertise in electrical safety within high-voltage environments (LOTO, SSoW, FMEA, Risk Assessments).
  • Demonstrated experience in structured root cause analysis (Fishbone, 5 Whys, ABA testing).
  • Deep understanding of Lean principles (Kaizen, 5S, DMAIC).
  • High proficiency with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analysers).

Desirable (A Major Plus):

  • 2+ years of experience with automated test equipment implementation (NI LabVIEW & TestStand).
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics, product manufacturing, and HVDC testing.
  • Experience supporting New Product Development (NPD) activities within a lean manufacturing environment.
