Principal Product Owner

Company: SimCorp
Apply for the Principal Product Owner
Location: London
Job Description:

Why this role is important to us

As a Product Owner in SimCorp’s Product Division, you will work on one of our most critical front‑office capabilities — Portfolio Management. Portfolio managers at asset management firms operate under increasing pressure: volatile markets, complex portfolios, tightening risk constraints, and the need to make better decisions faster. Static reports and disconnected tools are no longer enough. Portfolio managers need software that helps them understand portfolio positioning, risk usage, and exposure in real time, translate intent into action, and support consistent decision‑making directly at the point of trade.

We are building this on the SimCorp ONE platform and our modern Portfolio Management solution helps portfolio managers monitor portfolios, analyze exposures and risk, evaluate alternatives, and act within coherent, workflow‑driven software designed for true front‑office use. Portfolio Management is a core strategic capability for SimCorp and our clients.

What You Will Be Responsible For

As Product Owner, you are accountable for execution and impact, not just output.

  • Own the product vision and backlog for one or more Portfolio Management capabilities
  • Translate portfolio manager needs into clear, actionable product increments, delivered sprint by sprint
  • Lead and continuously prioritize the backlog for 1–2 full‑stack scrum teams, balancing PM value, platform quality, and technical health
  • Work closely with engineers and designers to shape workflows, interactions, and data models that make sense in real front‑office contexts
  • Build deep understanding of portfolio manager workflows, including:
    • Portfolio monitoring and decision preparation
    • Exposure and risk analysis
    • Scenario evaluation and rebalancing
    • Order generation and execution workflows
  • Write precise product briefs, user stories, and acceptance criteria, focused on PM intent and outcomes
  • Use PM feedback, usage data, and client input to validate priorities and iterate quickly
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners and Product Managers to ensure coherent front‑office workflows across Portfolio Management and adjacent product areas
  • Support demos and client discussions, grounding conversations in real portfolio manager use cases
  • Act as a constant voice of the portfolio manager in product and design decisions

Seniority and Scope (IC5–IC6)

This role spans multiple IC levels based on scope and impact:

  • IC5: Owns well‑defined Portfolio Management capabilities and delivers consistently through strong backlog ownership
  • IC6: Owns larger or more complex areas and influences product direction across teams and stakeholders

What We Value

Product & Domain Experience

  • Experience building B2B or enterprise software, ideally for asset managers or other front‑office users
  • Strong understanding of Portfolio Management, Portfolio Construction, and PM decision‑making workflows
  • Comfort working with analytics, data, and financial concepts

Ways of Working

  • Proven ability to lead agile teams and deliver real outcomes
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Pragmatic, outcome‑oriented mindset
  • Ability to zoom out to understand how PMs think — and zoom in to refine workflows, interactions, and details

Nice to Have

  • Experience with analytics‑heavy or workflow‑driven products
  • Experience with SimCorp Dimension® or similar platforms

As a person, you

  • Collaborate naturally with engineers, designers, and product peers
  • Are comfortable questioning assumptions and navigating complexity
  • Communicate clearly and speak up when needed
  • Balance structure with creativity
  • Care deeply about usability — not just functional completeness
