What you’ll be doing:

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic, ambitious, and high-performing Food and Safety Team. Slough is a vibrant and evolving borough where change is constant, bringing both exciting opportunities and rewarding challenges.

We work with a diverse range of businesses and partners to help keep Slough safe. Our regulatory responsibilities cover a broad spectrum of food businesses, from small home‑based caterers and importers to restaurants and multinational food manufacturers. No two days are the same.

The team delivers a wide range of functions, including food safety, health and safety, imported food controls, infectious disease management, and smoke‑free enforcement. We work closely with colleagues across the Public Health and Public Protection Directorate to achieve positive outcomes for residents and businesses alike.

We are also proud to manage a significant number of successful Primary Authority Partnerships, offering you the opportunity to contribute to and develop your own partnerships with businesses operating at a national level.

To succeed in this role, you will be enthusiastic, committed, and able to deliver work to a consistently high standard. You will be confident working independently, with strong organisational skills and self‑discipline to manage competing priorities and meet targets effectively.

In return, you will be supported by an experienced and knowledgeable team, with excellent opportunities for professional development through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and a range of career‑enhancing experiences.

We welcome applications from a Graduate who is yet to complete the CIEH Environmental Health or Food Safety Practitioner registration scheme. The role offers considerable flexibility, allowing you to plan and manage your workload in a way that supports both service delivery and our hybrid working arrangements.

You will play a key role in delivering the Council’s statutory and discretionary responsibilities relating to food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control. This will involve undertaking a range of regulatory interventions, assessing compliance, maintaining accurate inspection records and case notes, preparing reports, and providing clear feedback to businesses. Where non‑compliance is identified, you will be expected to take appropriate and proportionate enforcement action in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policies.
