A senior leadership opportunity at the heart of the Department for Transport’s Public Transport Strategy and Security Directorate, leading delivery of high‑profile government priorities including safer streets and improved public health. This role has significant strategic influence, shaping national policy and driving cross‑government collaboration to improve personal safety, reduce violence against women and girls, and enhance transport outcomes for millions of users. Alongside leading a high‑impact policy portfolio, the role also provides corporate leadership across the Public Transport and Local Group, ensuring effective delivery across a complex and high‑profile agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and co‑ordinate DfT’s contribution to the cross-Whitehall Safer Streets Mission, working with partners across government and the wider DfT family
- Drive a programme to reduce violence against women and girls and antisocial behaviour across all modes of transport
- Provide strategic oversight of personal safety initiatives across local transport, rail, roads and active travel
- Lead the Public Transport Portfolio Office, including strategic financial and resource management, governance, and organisational delivery

You will need to be able to show, through your application, that you have the professional skills, breadth of experience and personal qualities for this post, as well as the leadership skills to succeed at Deputy Director level in the Senior Civil Service.
