Production Manager Job Duties

  • To be the business lead on all matters concerning the production
  • To manage the departments training plans and to ensure all employees are multi‑skilled across the various production activities, maintaining competency matrix, individual training plans and appraisals
  • To actively lead the production team leaders by means of coaching, mentoring and guidance
  • To regularly liaise with other managers ensuring production schedules are delivered to the production lines to carry out the appropriate builds
  • Maintain positive working relations with key stakeholders within the business
  • Estimate costs and prepare budgets in line with operational objectives
  • Ensure production is carried out within the timeframes set to meet loading deadlines and ultimately the successful dispatch to the customers
  • To ensure product quality is maintained in line with the business’s quality management systems
  • In conjunction with the production team leaders ensure adequate resources (workforce, raw materials etc.) are in place to meet daily targets
  • To liaise with stock control to ensure stock levels are sufficient to achieve the build program
  • Oversee regular stock checks, identifying potential shortfalls
  • Support the implementation of engineering changes, production trials, model change and pilot builds
  • To manage the production team’s time, attendance and bonus scheme
  • To accurately collate the departments statistical data for analysis and review
  • Daily, weekly, monthly reporting of departments KPI’s, providing regular reports for performance, safety and training outcomes to senior management
  • In conjunction with the other operations managers, oversee the cleanliness of the yard
  • To manage all human resource and employee relations requirements of the production department

Production Manager Person Specification

  • Previous management experience is essential
  • To be able to demonstrate coaching, mentoring and employee relations skills
  • Proficient in MS Office and ERP software (SAP)
  • Understanding of quality standards and health & safety regulations
  • Knowledge of performance evaluation and budgeting concepts
  • Experience in reporting on key production metrics
