This amazing long term contract Mechanical Design Engineer contract with a leading Formula One organisation in Northamptonshire, is to support a range of high-performance, advanced technology programmes.
This position is due to run until the end of 2027.
We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead the mechanical design of components and systems on a variety of technically demanding high performance advanced technology projects. Covering motorsport and automotive projects.
You will also deliver engineering excellence from concept, through development and prove-out, to final product introduction. Working closely with other departments to ensure right first time, every time.
Skills you will need to be skilled at:
- Designing engineering solutions from clean sheet to end of life.
- Detailed design of complex and highly loaded components and systems.
- Engineering science fundamentals to perform hand calculations to make fast, accurate, justified engineering decisions.
- Engineering solutions considering material selection, manufacturability, assembly, heat treatment & other process requirements, surface finish requirements, GD&T & control over critical features.
- Thriving under pressure and relishing a challenge to innovate and deliver solutions to difficult problems.
- Mechanical, thermal, or fluidic simulations to a high standard would be a bonus.
Experience you will need:
- 3D CAD design software (preferably Siemens NX), and key simulation/analysis packages
- Operating in an engineering led, challenging, mechanical engineering position
Knowledge you will ideally demonstrate:
- Hybrid and electrical vehicle systems with experience in detailed mechanical component design and electrical system packaging.
- Deeper understanding of at least one field of electric machines, inverters or battery systems.
- Engineering first principles applied across multiple applications
Qualifications required:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering

- Create and validate novel engineering design solutions, supported by right first time principles and analysis that meet demanding performance and cost targets.
- Create robust and versatile CAD models to demonstrate concepts, in both solids and surfaces, with engineering drawings to complement design release.
- Solve complex problems and analyse failures
- Write test requests, review results, and write technical reports
- Build strong inter-departmental working relationships – teamwork is critical to our success
- Liaise with internal and external suppliers as an integral part of a successful engineering journey
