About the job

The Cardiff Commitment team is looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable, and confident Principal Business Development Officer to help develop our employer network and opportunities to shape a brighter future for our children and young people.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a real impact by building partnerships, supporting skills development, and aligning career pathways with the growth sectors of Cardiff and the Cardiff Capital Region.

Your focus will be on inspiring ambition, developing skills and supporting progression into education, employment or training. You will work closely with stakeholders to innovate and enhance the delivery of career services across the city, giving young people a solid foundation to secure positive destinations after they leave school.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with key partners across the city, including schools, young people’s representatives, Further and Higher education, work based learning, employers, Welsh Government, Careers Wales and support agencies to further the ambitions and goals of the Cardiff Commitment.
  • Facilitate and broker opportunities for employers to actively assist in the creation of pathways to work for young people – such as work experience, traineeships, apprenticeships, internships, and jobs.
  • Work with Economic Development and the Regional Skills Partnership to support local, regional and national skills growth strategies, enabling positive progression for the young people of Cardiff, particularly in priority economic growth sectors.
  • Promote the Cardiff Commitment by attending local and regional forums and networks that enhance knowledge and awareness of the Cardiff Commitment and develop connections in Careers, Skills, Apprenticeships and the World of Work.
  • Support the development of academic and vocational pathways for young people aged 16‑19 and prioritise support for vulnerable youth groups.
