Location: Hybrid / UK

The Opportunity

A leading national legal services organisation is seeking two experienced Senior Inter Partes Costs Draftsmen / Costs Lawyers to join its established Costs team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced Costs Lawyers and Draftsmen within a highly regarded department, handling a broad range of inter partes and Legal Aid matters. The successful candidates will play a key role in managing the full costs recovery process while supporting junior team members and contributing to the ongoing development of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting inter partes bills of costs
  • Preparing Legal Aid bills, including 3 and 6-column bills
  • Drafting costs budgets, schedules of costs and estimates
  • Preparing Points of Dispute and Points of Reply
  • Drafting Claim1, Claim1A and VHCC/HCCP claims
  • Conducting negotiations on bills of costs
  • Attending Costs Case Management Conferences (CCMCs) where required
  • Managing detailed assessment procedures and related documentation
  • Issuing Notices of Commencement and associated documents
  • Providing technical costs guidance to fee earners
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members
  • Ensuring compliance with internal procedures and quality standards
  • Managing matters efficiently to meet deadlines and targets

Candidate Requirements

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience within Costs Law
  • Strong experience drafting inter partes bills of costs
  • Experience preparing Legal Aid bills, including 3 and 6-column bills
  • Solid understanding of the Civil Procedure Rules relating to costs
  • Experience preparing costs budgets and schedules of costs
  • Ability to draft Points of Reply
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Experience managing matters independently
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office and Excel skills

Desirable

  • Advocacy experience
  • Experience attending Detailed Assessment Hearings
  • Experience with CostsMaster
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members
  • Understanding of Part 8 procedure
