About the role:
As Deputy Security Clearance Officer, you’ll play a vital part in the MOD‑wide security assurance process, managing, verifying and transmitting clearances worldwide for Service and Civilian personnel, up to and including ministerial level.
You’ll also act as Deputy STRAPSO and share responsibility for department information security. STRAP is a regime that regulates access to sensitive intelligence material, which requires more protective handling than is afforded by the standard arrangements for government assets.
What you’ll be doing:
- Administration, verification and transmission of security clearances worldwide for Service and Civilian personnel, up to and including ministerial level.
- Providing clearance information for unit staff visiting national and international locations.
- Acting as deputy STRAPSO, protecting the integrity of secure information, in accordance with MOD and Cabinet Office policy.
- Account creation for IT and telephony.
- Maintaining records for classified documents and media.
- Providing admin support to the wider Business Unit as required.
About you:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 software, including Excel and Outlook.
- Experience of working in a role requiring adherence to organisational policy and process.
- Able to demonstrate awareness of appropriate methods for handling, storing, recording or documenting information.
- Experience of building and maintaining good working relationships, across a wide range of personnel, acting with integrity and discretion.
- Ability to quickly assess information and make credible recommendations at pace.
- Security aware, with excellent attention to detail.
- Driven to provide a reliable, quality customer service.
- Able to make effective decisions and know when to seek advice or elevate issues.
- Motivated to learn and committed to your continuous development.

This post is available part‑time, with a maximum of 22 hours per week. The working pattern will be agreed once the successful candidate has been selected.
