We are excited to advertise a Rehabilitation Engineer to work within Suffolk Wheelchair Service, alongside Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Rehabilitation Engineering colleagues. This rare opportunity is for experienced or development candidates starting at B6 and progressing to B7.
The role is based at The Disability Resource Centre, Bury St. Edmunds, working countywide across West and East Suffolk. Travel across rural locations is required; a full driving licence and personal transport, or a suitable alternative, are essential.
The role requires regular quality visits to the Approved Repairer in Ipswich and access to a dedicated Admin Team.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment of adults and children with physical, cognitive, learning, or mobility disabilities using manual wheelchairs, powerchairs, and postural systems.
- Prescribe appropriate equipment (manual and powered wheelchairs, special seating, accessories, pressure‑relieving cushions) in collaboration with multidisciplinary team members or independently.
- Design and manufacture bespoke equipment solutions when commercial alternatives are unavailable, in line with medical device regulations.
- Take an active role in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers by prescribing suitable seating/cushioning and offering specialist advice to patients, carers, and professionals.
- Provide specialist engineering advice and support to colleagues.
- Assess, prescribe, and manage special seating systems that accommodate complex postural needs, preventing deformities, contractures, and associated health problems.
