For one of our globally leading tech clients we are urgently looking for an experienced PLC Automation Engineer for a long contract based in Wakefield, UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair automation and control systems
- Track and analyze Material Handling Equipment (MHE) performance metrics
- Collaborate with the EU Controls network to ensure system reliability
- Develop and present data visualizations for troubleshooting and performance insights
- Participate in and lead continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate system documentation and backup libraries
- Support installation and commissioning of new automation equipment
- Collaborate with cross‑functional and global teams
- Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
- Develop and optimize PLC code compliant with IEC 61131‑3 standards
A Day in the Life
- Act as the site expert for automation systems
- Ensure smooth operation of conveyors, sortation systems, and robotics
- Diagnose failures and implement technical solutions
- Train Engineering Technicians on troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
- Continuously identify and implement process improvements
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with PLC‑controlled automation systems
- Hands‑on experience with conveyors and sortation systems
- Knowledge of material handling and flow optimization
- Experience with tools/technologies such as:
- Microsoft Office & project management tools
- Ladder Logic & structured programming
- SCADA systems (e.g., Ignition) and HMI
- Industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, AS-i)
- VFDs, safety systems, and I/O devices
- Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
