Overview
We are partnering with a not-for-profit organisation based in West London, recruiting for a Head of Finance on a permanent basis. The annual salary is circa £80,000, depending on experience. You must be fully qualified and have experience working in the charity/not-for-profit sector.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and continually improve the organisation’s finance function, including training, developing and supporting the Finance team
- Oversee the preparation of financial accounts, forecasting and the financial aspects of large-scale project and programme budgets, ensuring robust reporting and monitoring
- Produce accurate, timely financial reports for the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Board and liaise with external auditors during key financial peaks in the year
- Act as the Executive Lead for the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, preparing and presenting papers as required and working closely with governance and HR colleagues
- Ensure compliance with all statutory financial and legal requirements, including the annual audit and regulatory obligations
- Allocate tasks effectively to meet deadlines and keep colleagues informed of progress
- Monitor cash flow and reserves and analyse performance against the organisation’s business plan and financial dashboard
- Contribute to the overall leadership of the organisation, playing an active role in strategic and operational planning and supporting colleagues on cross-team initiatives
- Attend senior leadership team meetings as required
- Provide line management for senior finance and related roles, including oversight of debt recovery and development partnerships
- Proven track record as a Head of Finance (ideally within the charity/not-for-profit sector), with broad expertise across all core finance processes and strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to build effective internal partnerships, working collaboratively to achieve shared objectives
- Skilled in developing and enhancing financial reporting tools and systems, with the ability to coach and support others in their use
- Practical knowledge of VAT, including partial exemption as it applies to charities
- Experience of managing and developing staff to achieve their potential
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the credibility, flexibility and energy to represent the organisation effectively both internally and externally
Qualifications
- Must hold a formally recognised professional accounting qualification
