Job Overview
Provide clerical support to Medical & Nursing staff within the Urgent and Emergency care service line within the medicine business unit.
Responsibilities
- Book patients, manage patient registration, and maintain computer and paper records.
- Deal with sensitive medical records and interact with visitors and relatives.
- Answer telephone enquiries from GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other organisations.
- Provide front‑line reception and ward clerk duties.
- Answer face‑to‑face enquiries from patients and clinical staff.
- Manage appointment systems, patient clinic appointments (booking, rescheduling, cancellation).
- Liaise with internal and external agencies.
- Ensure discharge summaries are raised and sent out promptly.
- Assist in training and development of new staff.
- Maintain high standards of the Emergency Care Centre and associated departments.
- Provide excellent customer service to all patients and visitors.
Working Conditions
Cross‑site working between Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Blaydon UTC, 24‑hour rota including weekends and Bank Holidays (Christmas and New Year).
Requirements
Successful applicants must register with the DBS update service and pay for their DBS certificate if required.
