The post will be part time, working alongside another substantive consultant, Dr Natalia Wielgosz (0.6 WTE). The BAU has its base at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, Beckenham, and is housed on Tyson East 1 ward. TE1 has 12 inpatient beds suitable for young people aged 12‑18 and up to 3 day‑patient places, operating as an open adolescent inpatient unit providing mental health care for adolescents with serious mental illness who present in crisis and require hospital admission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assessment and management of children and young people, providing psychiatric input for both routine and emergency clinical care.
- Supervision of junior medical staff – the post holder is expected to be an accredited clinical supervisor, or to obtain accreditation if not already certified.
- Attending and chairing clinical meetings as scheduled.
- Liaising and communicating with the MDT, other professionals, teams, and agencies.
- Providing strong clinical leadership.
- Provision of advice to other CAMHS teams.
- Participation in peer and group supervision meetings.
- Participation in training of medical students, psychiatric trainees, and multidisciplinary staff.
- Adherence to agreed job plan and appraisal procedures set by the Trust.
- Maintaining GMC registration, Licence to Practice, and participating in CPD to remain in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, including support to join a local peer group if required.
- Maintaining Section 12 and Approved Clinician approval – if not already approved, the appointee will be expected to attain approval as soon as possible.
- Covering for colleagues (prospective coverage).
OTHER ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE
- Ensure that electronic patient clinical records are well maintained and meet Trust standards for documentation and communication with referrers and users.
- Implement policies and procedures to safeguard and protect children within the service and throughout the CPA process.
- Help maintain a clinical database and keep all other records and statistics as necessary and required.
- Participate in management meetings and other relevant meetings as appropriate to responsibilities.
- Apply quality standards to all work undertaken, in line with Trust Clinical Governance policies.
- Act with integrity, honesty and probity at all times.
- Assist in or lead research and evaluation in line with departmental research ambitions and plans.
- Take part in and lead audit projects when appropriate.
- Participate in the investigation of Serious Incidents and Complaints as a senior investigator on an occasional but regular basis.
