Consultant Psychiatrist – Adult Inpatient Services

Full time, 10 PAs.

Location: Springfield Hospital, Tooting, London SW17. The post is an established position at Rose Ward following the current post holder’s move to an alternative post within the organisation.

The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide medical leadership to Rose Ward. They will work closely with the Ward Manager to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing, appraising and supervising junior medical staff in accordance with Trust personnel policies.
• Ensuring junior staff operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
• Conducting administrative duties and record keeping associated with patient care.
• Participating in service and business planning for the Ward and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
• Being contactable by the team during working hours via mobile phone and e‑mail.
• Working flexibly and creatively as part of a multidisciplinary team promoting informed risk‑taking and anti‑discriminatory practice.
• Communicating clearly and effectively with staff of all major disciplines concerned with the provision of mental health care.
• Participating in annual appraisal for consultants.
• Attending and participating in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of an internal CPD programme.
• Maintaining professional registration with the General Medical Council and abiding by professional codes of conduct.
• Participating annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager to ensure the post adapts to service changes.
• Co‑operating with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and contributing to management within the medical profession.
• Complying with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and taking an active role in the financial management of the service.
