The Operations Manager is responsible for the seamless execution of all Sunday services and mid-week events, ensuring that SOUL Church remains a safe, secure, and highly functional environment for the congregation and visitors.
This role provides strategic and practical oversight of Sunday operational teams, with a specialised focus on building security and safety compliance. As a key leader, the post-holder will manage the implementation of Martyn’s Law and lead risk mitigation efforts, ensuring that church operations reflect the excellence and care central to SOUL Church’s mission.
1. Sunday Operations and Volunteer Leadership
- Provide direct line management and support to the Sunday Operations Team Coordinator (Volunteer).
- Oversee all Sunday operational teams to ensure services are executed with excellence and efficiency.
- Foster a culture of servant-hearted leadership and teamwork among operational volunteers.
- Coordinate with various departments to ensure the building is fully prepared and presented for church gatherings and external hires.
2. Security and Martyn’s Law Implementation
- Lead the implementation and continued management of Martyn’s Law (Terrorism Protection of Premises) requirements.
- Oversee the daily opening, locking, and securing of the building, ensuring strict adherence to security protocols.
- Manage all external security contractors and service providers.
- Act as the primary contact for security-related incidents, ensuring prompt response and follow-up.
3. Health, Safety, and Risk Mitigation
- Lead on Health & Safety compliance across all Sunday operations and events.
- Conduct regular, thorough risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies to ensure the safety of the building and its occupants.
- Oversee fire safety drills, incident reporting, and safety compliance documentation.
- Provide leadership to the Church Safety Team, ensuring they are expertly trained and equipped for service and event management.
4. Budgetary and Resource Oversight
- Manage and monitor the operational and security budgets, ensuring prudent stewardship of church resources.
- Obtain quotes and manage service level agreements (SLAs) for security and operational equipment.
- Identify cost-effective solutions and provide regular budget forecasts to the General Manager.
- Support and collaborate with the wider Operations Team to ensure alignment with church objectives.
- Ensure robust systems are in place for tracking operational tasks and safety actions.
- Actively contribute to a positive, professional, and spiritually mature working environment.
Skills and Attributes
- Proven experience in operational management, event logistics, or security oversight
- Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety legislation and modern risk assessment practices
- Specific knowledge or experience in implementing security frameworks (knowledge of Martyn’s Law preferred)
- Strong leadership abilities, with a track record of managing and motivating volunteer teams
- Excellent organizational skills and competence with digital tools for tracking and reporting
- High level of discretion and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
