MTrec Technical are proudly representing a leading engineering and manufacturing business based in Sunderland, as they seek to appoint an experienced Maintenance Engineer to their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, providing hands‑on engineering support across all departments. You’ll play a vital role in maximising equipment performance, supporting continuous improvement projects, and contributing to the overall reliability and efficiency of site operations.

The Job You Will Do

  • Provide emergency breakdown support to production machinery and equipment
  • Conduct regular planned maintenance as per the maintenance schedule
  • Support the UK Engineering Manager with engineering projects, including design, specification, purchasing, and installation
  • Carry out mechanical and electrical repairs across a wide range of production and support equipment
  • Monitor equipment performance, identifying and resolving recurring issues
  • Maintain accurate records for all maintenance activities
  • Assist with external contractors and service engineers, ensuring adherence to safety standards
  • Ensure all work aligns with company Health & Safety, ISO 14001, and other internal and external compliance standards
  • Take part in initiatives to improve downtime, efficiency, and health and safety
  • Maintain a clean, organised and hazard‑free work environment

About You

  • Ideally HNC qualified in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Electrical preferred)
  • Recognised time‑served apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance
  • NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Operations or equivalent
  • Proven maintenance experience in a factory/manufacturing environment (essential)
  • Post‑apprenticeship experience in a similar role (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Motors, drives, PLCs, gearboxes, transmissions
  • Strong team player with proactive attitude
  • Excellent initiative and problem‑solving skills
  • Able to prioritise and adapt to changing schedules
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident communicator across all levels and departments
