About the role
The Engineering Product Operations Lead (EPOL) is a newly created role at the heart of Data Platforms’ transformation. EPOL partners with an engineering area of 100–300 people, providing frameworks and support that enable delivery. The position reports to the Head of Portfolio & Business Management for Data Platforms and may involve leading a small team or acting as a senior individual contributor.
What you’ll be doing
- Alignment & Governance – Own the planning cadence, governance structures, and information flow; track commitments and make governance useful, not bureaucratic.
- Product Delivery – Keep portfolio progress visible, unblock teams, prioritize work, and investigate divergences between metrics and reality.
- Teams & Workforce – Balance delivery needs with long‑term skill building, manage contractor and vendor relationships, foster recognition, and develop talent.
- Risk & Controls – Proactively manage operational, technology, and cyber risk; turn compliance into an enabler of informed risk‑taking.
- Financial Management – Own budgeting, spend tracking across people, cloud, software, and projects; prioritize sustainable value and ensure financial accuracy and forecasting.
What you’ll bring
- Strong planning cadence, governance, and delivery reporting across multi‑team environments, with a knack for simplifying processes.
- Financial instincts: manage budgets, build forecasts and identify cost impacts.
- Portfolio‑level risk management, dependency and change oversight without overwhelming teams.
- Experience shaping workforce strategies, balancing permanent hires, contractors, and vendor partnerships.
- Ability to build trusting relationships quickly across engineering teams and senior leadership, with audience‑appropriate communication.
- Clear, compelling written communication – business cases, board papers, executive briefs.
- A growth mindset, continuous learning, and a drive to automate, simplify, and improve work practices.
Desired experience and skills
- Familiarity with financial services, market data, or fintech environments.
- Experience with agile delivery and product‑led ways of working.
- Recognised project or programme management qualification such as MoP, PMP, or PRINCE2 (credentialting valued over credential).
- Exposure to engineering productivity metrics, cloud cost management, or technology lifecycle planning.
