We are currently supporting a district council to appoint an Interim S151 Officer to provide cover while the permanent postholder is recruited and onboarded for a District Council.
This is a key leadership role at a pivotal time for the organisation. In addition to ensuring continuity and statutory compliance, the interim will play an important role in reviewing and optimising the finance function, supporting the council as it navigates a period of change and opportunity linked to Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).
Key Responsibilities
- Fulfil the statutory duties of the S151 Officer, providing assurance on the robustness of the council’s financial management and governance
- Lead the council’s finance function, ensuring business continuity, stability and resilience
- Provide strategic financial advice to Members, the Chief Executive and Corporate Leadership Team
- Support financial planning, budget setting and in‑year monitoring
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, structures and controls
- Play a constructive role in preparing the organisation for LGR, including supporting organisational change and future financial readiness
About You
- Previous experience operating as a S151 Officer or Deputy S151 Officer within local government
- Strong understanding of local government finance, governance and statutory requirements
- Confident operating in complex environments and providing clear, pragmatic advice
- Able to balance assurance and delivery while supporting improvement and transformation
- Comfortable stepping into an organisation at pace and building effective relationships quickly
