Hospital Name: Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys | Job Title: Locum Consultant Psychiatrist – Learning Disabilities | Location: Northallerton | Rate: £100 – £115 + negotiable + dependant on experience | Contract Type: Locum (short-term and long-term assignments available) | Start Date: 13/04/2026 or ASAP

Schedules: PART TIME – Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant psychiatrist input in the Community LD team.
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with mental illness, autism and challenging behaviour.
• Ensure effective holistic multidisciplinary assessment and care planning with service users, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
• Plan all treatment needs, including prescription of medication.
• Maintain close liaison with partners in other health, social care, primary, and third sector organisations to ensure patient needs are met.
• Provide cover for other colleagues on non‑working days and emergency cover.
• Manage risk and weigh complex risk information to deliver care that is in the best interests of the individual’s recovery; support the MDT by clear communication, containing anxiety, and maintaining hope for the patient.

What We’re Looking For – Essential

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Section 12/Section 22 and Approved/Responsible Clinician status (or eligibility).
• A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check – or willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process.
• Experience in adult mental health settings.
• UK Right to Work.
• A flexible, collaborative, and patient‑focused approach.
• CCT in Learning Disabilities Psychiatry.
