Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the UCLH, Camden and Islington Palliative Care Service. Based in the community team, with willingness to support the wider service, you will help provide a high level of day‑to‑day office support to the team, contributing ideas and assisting in projects to improve and develop the service.

You will need the ability to work independently and within the team when required. You will be approachable, friendly, able to work in a busy environment with varied needs, react well under pressure, get tasks done quickly and effectively, and adapt to fast‑changing situations.

Essential skills include excellent communication and organisational abilities, initiative, strong IT skills (software and hardware setup), and the ability to help other staff resolve IT issues. Previous NHS experience is desirable, but all forms of experience will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative/office support to the Palliative Care Multi‑Disciplinary Team.
  • Facilitate effective communication by providing and receiving information within the team, and by providing timely and accurate messages and information.
  • Exercise judgment when dealing with enquiries, analyse and resolve problems where required and within scope of role.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload.
  • When required to service meetings, including preparing appropriate papers and taking and transcribing minutes.
  • Be involved in and contribute ideas to project work aimed at improving the service.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to staff needs and requests.
  • Help manage IT and related issues.
  • Help with the induction and set up of new staff members.
  • Help ensure clinical supplies are managed and ordered.
  • Collect and collate timely and accurate statistical data as required for auditing purposes, producing reports from the data as required.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Be aware of all necessary quality standards and performance measures relevant for the post and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Maintain a high standard of confidentiality at all times.
  • Take part in team/service meetings.
  • Be proficient and confident in the use of Microsoft packages including PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook.

Personal Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest standards of care and service, taking responsibility not only for the support you personally provide but also for your wider contribution to the aims of your team and the NHS as a whole.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory and essential training to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of the Trust and/or safety and wellbeing of other staff and the people for whom you provide services.
  • Be familiar with and comply with Trust policies for infection prevention and control, hand hygiene, correct uniform and dress code policy, the use of personal protective equipment policy, safe procedures for using aseptic techniques, and safe disposal of sharps, including required mandatory training.
