Job overview

We are recruiting a Registered Nurse for our St Albans Haemodialysis Unit who share our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. The post holder will work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team in renal, caring for patients receiving renal replacement therapy in the haemodialysis units, on the nephrology ward and in home therapies. The role supports the nursing team, assists in training and development of junior staff, and participates in the Renal On‑call service as necessary.

Main duties of the job

  • Recognise and reflect on barriers to effective communication and modify communication in response.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care needs of patients from admission (or before) to discharge, involving patients and their relatives/carers.
  • Participate in internal shift rotation to provide 24‑hour patient care.
  • Participate within a team of nurses and support workers to provide continuity of patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining good communication links with the Multidisciplinary Team, Specialist Nurses and all other relevant personnel.
  • Develop competence and skills required to safely use and maintain equipment utilised in the management of renal patients.
  • Develop competence in haemodialysis skills, such as cannulation, evaluation of patient access and patient fluid assessment.
  • Carry out clinical procedures and treatments in line with the patient’s plan of care.

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

  • Registered Nurse or equivalent with live NMC registration.
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.

Previous Experience

  • Experience in haemodialysis as a qualified nurse.
  • Experience of mentoring junior/unqualified staff.

Skills

  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate interventions and/or treatments.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
  • Ability to develop own skills and knowledge.
