Consultant Urologist

We are looking for a Consultant Urologist to join the Urology Department at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves outpatient clinics, elective theatre lists, flexible cystoscopy, TP biopsies, cancer MDT, and full day‑and‑out‑of‑hours urological emergency cover shared with six other consultants. The successful candidate will provide a full range of core urological outpatient services and procedures, including laparoscopic nephrectomies and endourology, and will be an active member of the uro‑oncology local MDT.
The appointment requires broad clinical experience in emergency urological surgery, the ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care, and strong clinical leadership. The role also includes education and training for medical students and the wider clinical team.
Person Specification
- FRCS (UROL) or equivalent
- Full registration with GMC and entry on the GMC Specialist Register, or training to a level commensurate with the award of CCST/HPT, or eligibility for entry on the specialist register of the GMC in surgery within 6 months of advisory appointments committee (evidence of RITA G should be given at interview)
Experience
- Broad clinical experience in emergency urological surgery
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience of clinical leadership
- Management training/experience
- Knowledge of peer review process for cancer and role of Urology Cancer Lead
- Awareness of the impact of PCT requirements on service provision
Skills
- Skilled in the investigation and management of core urological conditions
- Skilled in the investigation and management of urological cancers, including high grade superficial bladder cancer
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problemsAbility to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service
- Ability to organise and manage out‑patient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
- Ability to manage and lead surgical firm
- Teaching skills – undergraduate and postgraduate
