About IT Services

IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast‑moving department. We focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.

The Team

The integration team is responsible for the application development and maintenance of our core integration technologies, primarily Boomi, as well as legacy Oracle Integrations, Microsoft SSIS and SoftwareAG WebMethods. The team manages over 800 integration jobs that maintain data links between our core, internal and external systems. Strong, reliable integration is key to the success of IT projects at the University.

The Role

An opening has arisen for an experienced Integration Engineer to join the Integration Delivery Team in IT Services. The role involves working with business users and IT colleagues to assist integration delivery in projects, define integration requirements and implement solutions based on our core integration technologies – primarily Boomi. You will support a large number of point‑to‑point, batch and real‑time interfaces driven from our Boomi Integration Platform as well as legacy WebMethods, SSIS and Oracle technologies. The role will also include day‑to‑day support and development of existing integrations in the BAU space.

The Person

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • Experience building, configuring, and maintaining integration processes using the Dell Boomi AtomSphere platform (Integration, B2B/EDI, API management, Master Data Hub, Event Streams).
  • Proficiency with REST/SOAP, EDI, OAuth2, JWT, API gateway concepts and GraphQL.
  • Good grasp of languages such as Java, JavaScript, Groovy; experience with application servers and SQL/NoSQL.
  • Experience creating and managing REST/SOAP APIs, orchestrating workflows and handling orchestration via cloud/on‑premises systems.
  • Experience gathering requirements and producing design and build documentation in the integration space.
  • Experience providing day‑to‑day support of complex integrations across multiple technologies.
  • Implementation of validation, normalization and data‑mapping routines across formats such as XML, JSON and flat files; authoring custom logic.
  • An understanding of a broad range of integration approaches and technologies.
  • Experience using source control, e.g. GitLab, Bitbucket or Git.
  • Experience with Swagger or other REST definition tools.
  • Experience calling and testing APIs using tools such as Postman or SOAP‑UI.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience using Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Experience using JIRA and Confluence.
  • Boomi certification(s), Agile/Scrum experience, and AI/LLM integration knowledge.
