Transport Manager
Waterbeach – 45 hours per week – £42,000 per annumCompany use van, pension and additional benefits
We are seeking a committed and capable Transport Manager to join our team at Waterbeach and take responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient running of our transport operation. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong transport or fleet management experience who enjoys leading people, solving problems and driving operational performance in a fast-paced environment.
This is a key operational management role with responsibility for a mixed fleet of approximately 33 vehicles, including hookloaders, tractor units, walking floor trailers and commercial waste collection vehicles.
Working closely with the Principal Business Manager and Compliance Manager you will play an important part in maintaining high service standards, strong transport compliance and effective fleet performance.
What you will be doing
- Managing the day-to-day transport operation to ensure safe, compliant and efficient service delivery
- Overseeing vehicle and driver deployment to meet operational and customer requirements
- Leading and supporting Traffic Supervisors
- Monitoring fleet performance, vehicle utilisation, fuel use, defects and repairs
- Working with the Compliance Manager to ensure maintenance, inspections and transport compliance requirements are met
- Supporting incident investigation, performance management and operational improvement
- Contributing to cost control, service performance and ongoing operational efficiency
What we are looking for
- Experience in a transport, logistics or fleet role
- Experience of managing operational teams, including supervisors and drivers
- Good understanding of fleet operations, driver management and service delivery
- Knowledge of transport compliance, health and safety and operational best practice
- Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
- A practical, hands‑on management style with the ability to lead by example
- Full UK driving licence
- LGV licence
- Experience of transport, routing or fleet management systems
- Knowledge of operator licence compliance and vehicle maintenance planning
This role requires flexibility to meet operational demands, including occasional out‑of‑hours contact and occasional weekend cover (additional payments will be made).
