company description.
Did you know that more than 45 billion disposable RFID tags are made annually and typically end up in landfill after a short life cycle? PulpaTronics develops fully-recyclable and metal-free RFID tags that are also cheaper and simpler to manufacture. PulpaTronics spent the last 2 years in R&D and we’re looking to deliver our first pilots. We have won two research grants, numerous competitions (e.g. Dezeen Awards, SantanderX Global Challenge, H&M Foundation) and secured our pre-seed funding. We are looking for applicants to join our team of five, who share our passion for sustainability, have a startup “hustle” mentality, and are eager to make real change in our society.
position summary.
We are seeking a highly motivated computing specialist to join our R&D team as a Software Developer Intern. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the scaling and commercialization of our core technology. You will be working on building novel, cloud-native solutions that dramatically accelerate the development cycle for our proprietary hardware systems.
The core project involves engineering an AI-driven optimization engine for critical system components, which will be the backbone of our ability to rapidly innovate and meet commercial demand. There is also an exciting opportunity to explore a secondary, cutting-edge project: leveraging deep learning for advanced material characterization using high-resolution image analysis. This position offers significant autonomy and a chance to truly own a product component from architecture to deployment. We are looking for an intern who is eager to drive a project and make a direct, measurable impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and Implement a software architecture for cloud-native engineering solutions, focusing on performance, stability, and scalability.
- Develop and Integrate advanced computational tools to drive iterative design and optimization processes, linking high-fidelity simulation environments with scalable computing resources.
- Contribute to the full development lifecycle, including rigorous testing, performance evaluation, and maintaining detailed documentation.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, scaling-up, IP, and commercial teams to ensure engineering solutions are aligned with business and product development goals.
- Document and Present methodology and findings in technical design reviews, clearly articulating the impact of your work.
Required Qualifications
- Strong academic background (Degree in Computing, Electronic and Information Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or similar).
- Demonstrated experience in developing and applying optimization algorithms (e.g., Genetic Algorithms, Particle Swarm Optimization, Reinforcement Learning).
- Proficiency in Python for software development, with experience in relevant libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, TensorFlow/PyTorch is a bonus).
- Experience with or a strong aptitude for using cloud computing platforms (Google Cloud Platform preferred) for scalable computation.
- Familiarity with Electromagnetic simulation tools like Ansys HFSS or similar finite element modeling software is highly desirable.
- Comfortable reading, analyzing, and synthesizing information from academic research papers to inform algorithm design and implementation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate research concepts into functional, reliable software.
- Ability to work independently, manage project timelines, and communicate complex technical information effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
Opportunities
- Opportunity to take full ownership and lead a significant component of the technological R&D development.
- Milestones tailored to personal development goals with plenty of support and training.
- Work from home one day a week.
