Senior Health & Safety Manager
Full‑time, permanent. Contractual location: Hinkley Point C, minimum four days a week on site.
Role Overview
At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low‑carbon electricity for around six million homes. As a senior member of the HPC Site Construction management team, you will report directly to the Head of Construction Health & Safety and will be instrumental in setting and maintaining the highest standards of health, wellbeing and safety across the site. Your influence will span from engaging operatives on the ground to collaborating with senior leaders in the boardroom.
Responsibilities
• Trusted deputy to the Head of Construction Health & Safety, managing departmental activities and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
• Resolve emerging site safety issues and promote a proactive safety culture.
• Oversee the development and implementation of Principal Contractor arrangements, tailored to the evolving risk profile of the site.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to drive innovation, harvest best practices and lead improvement programmes that enhance safety and wellbeing.
• Manage relationships with regulators such as the ONR, support emergency response planning and departmental budgets.
• Play a vital part in developing a strong nuclear safety culture and ensuring your team is trained, supported and empowered to succeed.
Qualifications
• Significant experience in large and medium scale construction projects, ideally within EPC environments.
• Deep understanding of health, safety, environmental standards, both nationally and internationally, including CDM Regulations and Nuclear Site Licence Conditions.
• Chartered member (or working towards) of a recognised HSE organisation and hold a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, from site operatives to senior executives, and to build trust‑based relationships across diverse teams.
• Skilled in behavioural leadership, emergency response planning, and managing high‑performing teams in dynamic environments.
• Results‑driven mindset balanced with a collaborative approach, adaptable, emotionally intelligent, dependable and proactive.
• Must meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which generally requires you to have been a UK resident for at least three of the last five years.
