We are recruiting a Specialty Doctor for the substance misuse treatment service in River Garston, Liverpool. The post holder will work under the Consultant Psychiatrist, collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team, and provide holistic care for clients of both services.
Core responsibilities:
- Provide a clinical assessment, including relevant psychiatric and physical investigations, of a wide range of substance misusers presenting to the service.
- Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date medical and administrative documentation, including electronic records.
- Liaise closely with other professionals and organisations – non‑statutory addiction services, adult psychiatric services, general practitioners, medical colleagues, Social Services and Prison Services.
- Initiate appropriate prescribing regimes in line with national legislation and guidance, and provide specialist prescribing assessments for opiate, stimulant, tranquilizer, barbiturate and alcohol‑dependent clients.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure effective administration, including record keeping, discharge summaries and correspondence to relevant bodies.
- Conduct phlebotomy tests as required and support the nursing team to maximise testing for BBVs and vaccination against Hepatitis A and B.
- Support nursing team to titrate patients safely onto a treatment regime.
- Attend multidisciplinary meetings, promote the nomination of named link workers and actively support the implementation of integrated care pathways.
About you
- Medical Degree and completion of Basic Medical Training and Full GMC UK Registration with License to Practice.
- Experience in delivering evidence‑based treatments in substance misuse.
- Good knowledge of addiction psychiatry and legislation relating to mental health.
- Demonstrable effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of the issues facing substance misusers, including appropriate medical interventions, social care and health issues.
- Capacity to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
- Proven ability to liaise and maintain a professional relationship with a diverse range of people.

Full time 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract. Salary range: £90,317.14‑£101,316.49 per annum, paid pro‑rata. The position will be based in River Garston, Liverpool. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level will be required.
