Responsibilities
- Support and deputise the Theatre/Anaesthetic Coordinator in the management of the clinical area, including handling complex situations and taking appropriate action in emergencies or unforeseen events.
- Act as a clinical role model and leader for all members of staff.
- Provide specialist clinical advice and facilitate high‑quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers without supervision, collaborating with the multi‑disciplinary team.
- Be flexible with clinical areas and provide cover for any area within your level of competence (e.g., nurse‑led discharge, trust‑wide resuscitation attendance, coordination of emergency/trauma lists, or high‑dependence care).
- Take an active role in rostering and rotation of staff to enhance their skills.
- Act as a team leader and ensure effective and efficient management of theatre lists.
- Lead the provision of care in accordance with Trust Policies, reflecting current trends and developments in nursing/anaesthetics and the NHS.
- Assist in developing and maintaining a department philosophy and model of care.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence‑based practice to improve quality and meet patient needs, adopting a holistic approach that considers physiological, pathological, spiritual, socio‑economic and cultural aspects.
- Under the supervision of the Theatre/Anaesthetic Coordinator, set goals and benchmark standards of care, develop tools to improve service quality and coordinate clinical services across the department.
- Comply with and participate in the Trust’s framework for Clinical Governance within the department area.
- Provide a suitable and safe environment for the physical and psychological wellbeing of staff, patients/clients and their relatives/carers; identify clinical risks and ensure appropriate action in accordance with the Trust Risk Management policy.
- Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Theatre/Anaesthetic Coordinator.
- Initiate investigations of untoward incidents, accidents, complaints and other relevant information when delegated.
- Monitor the quality of patient care and act on audit information to achieve agreed standards under the direction of the Theatre/Anaesthetic Coordinator.
- Ensure theatre/nursing documentation is maintained to the Trust standard, including electronic records.
- Take clinical lead in allocated specialist areas of expertise, rotating through all peri‑operative areas (Anaesthetics, Scrub and Recovery).
- Promote and sustain improved customer care initiatives; act as a resource for advice to patients, relatives/carers and staff.
- Actively promote a healthy lifestyle for patients and staff, appreciating national strategy requirements.
Additional Information
Employment is subject to a six‑month probation. Some roles may require weekend shifts at multiple sites.
