Technical Design Engineer

The Role

As a Technical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing robust and cost-effective security solutions that meet client requirements. You’ll join the design team to ensure high-quality technical input during bids and facilitate a smooth transition from design to project delivery. The ideal candidate is passionate about incorporating the latest technologies to create exceptional value for clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop commercially viable designs that meet customer specifications.
  • Create technical solutions and proposals that clearly communicate value-added benefits.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Procurement, and other teams to select optimal technologies and product sets.
  • Conduct site visits and technical surveys to gather essential design information.
  • Provide technical support for tender submissions, ensuring all designs are thoroughly checked and compliant with standards.
  • Prepare specifications and drawings for subcontractors and suppliers based on the proposed design.
  • Coordinate with Procurement to secure competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure a seamless transition from design to project delivery, with clear communication throughout.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in designing Electronic Security Systems, including CCTV, Access Control, and Intruder Detection.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and security technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Microsoft Azure) and virtualisation systems such as VMWare and Hyper‑V.
  • Excellent written skills for preparing technical proposals and tender documents.
  • Proficiency in design software, including Visio and JVSG.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the UK security industry, including market dynamics and competitors.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Installations and Civil works related to security infrastructure.
  • Understanding of technologies like AI as a service, predictive analytics, and Active Directory.
