The Group Compliance Function aims to proactively support Willis Towers Watson to generate sustainable value, help the company deliver good client outcomes, manage its conduct, protect against regulatory risk, and maintain strong regulatory relationships. We aim to be a trusted partner to the business.

We lead the management and co‑ordination of Willis Towers Watson Group Compliance policies and procedures, identify applicable regulatory requirements, and implement processes to enable standards to be met. We also provide guidance and training.

This is a Certification Function role under the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA’s) Senior Manager and Certification Regime. Candidates will be assessed under Fitness & Competence standards, including self‑disclosures, criminal record checks, reference checks, credit checks and background checks. The role will also be subject to FCA Conduct Rules.

Role

Reporting to the Willis Limited Chief Compliance Officer and as a key member of the Willis Limited Compliance Leadership Team, the Senior Compliance Officer will ensure the operation of an efficient and effective second‑line function. The Senior Compliance Business Partner is a Certified role under the Senior Managers & Certification Regime.

  • Lead, manage and develop an effective team of skilled Compliance business partners.
  • Direct line management of up to five Compliance Business Partners or Assistant Compliance Business Partners.
  • Operation and delivery of an annual compliance plan derived from the Willis Limited Compliance Plan, reporting progress to the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Develop direct reports and the wider team, identify training and personal development needs, and set objectives.
  • Serve as the senior point of escalation and contact for regulatory issues within the business.
  • Ensure quality and proactive engagement with the business at all levels.
  • Identify and assess compliance risks within the business, discuss promptly with LoB management where issues arise.
  • Provide technical regulatory advice and support to the business under relevant WTW policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify training needs, develop training plans, and coordinate effective compliance training.
  • Analyse management information, Compliance Monitoring reports, and audit reports, and discuss key findings with the business.
  • Support the Chief Compliance Officer in embedding the Compliance Framework within the Willis Limited business.
  • Assist with coordination and implementation of the Willis Limited Compliance Framework.
  • Attend senior business meetings, provide meaningful updates and management information to support regulatory obligations.
  • Represent the compliance function at key governance forums.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with CEOs and COOs of supported businesses.
  • Provide strategic advice regarding the control environment for each business.
  • Use commercial understanding to inform views and provide independent influence on business plans.
  • Provide regular updates on compliance metrics and commentary to relevant leaders and management.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of the regulatory framework in the UK and determine how changes affect Willis GB.
  • Conduct horizon scanning to identify upcoming developments and monitor internal policies and controls.
  • Escalate regulatory issues to the Chief Compliance Officer and resolve them with compliance management.
  • Work closely with the Head of Central Compliance on scoping reviews and monitoring reports.
  • Support the Central Compliance team in sourcing data for regulatory returns and horizon scanning.
  • Provide second‑line advice, support, and challenge for assigned business areas.
  • Review and challenge the design of new products and services to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in the business risk assessment process, ensuring compliance risks are managed appropriately.
  • Co‑ordinate with Internal Audit on activities covering compliance obligations.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Degree level education or equivalent, with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., law, accountancy, business).
  • Significant London Insurance Market knowledge.
  • Excellent regulatory and corporate governance knowledge and experience leading a compliance team.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; proven ability to engage senior management and direct reports.
  • Engaging leadership style, able to motivate others.
  • Ability to work individually and as a team under tight timelines and without direct supervision.
  • Proactive, self‑starter.
  • Demonstrates high integrity consistently.
  • Organised and methodical.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic approach to compliance risk management.

  • Fluent business English.
  • IT literate; knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
