Mental Health Practitioner (Complex Emotional Needs and Older People)

We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and experienced mental health practitioner to join our well‑established, friendly and supportive Community Mental Health Team for Older People (CMHTOP) in Rotherham.
This innovative post has been funded specifically to support an emerging pathway for older people with complex emotional needs (CEN). The post holder will provide support to patients with CEN in later life (who may also have a diagnosis of personality disorder), working with a wide range of service providers across all tiers of Mental Health Care and with partner agencies, to deliver effective interventions that meet the needs of this population. This will include Structured Clinical Management and other evidence‑based treatments where appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work closely with our CEN Clinical Lead, OP Community Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Nurse Consultant and a wider cohort of SCM practitioners, to develop a bespoke offer for older people. The role includes a comprehensive network of support, including regular individual and group clinical supervision and access to specialist training and accreditation in evidence‑based treatments of CEN.
These positions require a high level of autonomous practice; practitioners will be confident clinicians able to make competent decisions about risk, care planning and the appropriateness of home treatment. Postholders will have relevant knowledge and experience of mental health acute/crisis work in the community.

Qualifications
- Registered Occupational Therapist HCPC registered
- Mental Nursing Certificate (RMN) Registration on NMC register
- Social Work registered with Social Work England (SWE)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Mentor/Teaching/Practice Educator (clinical practice) qualification/certificate or equivalent experience.
Experience
- Appropriate demonstrable experience of working with Working Age & or Older People with complex mental health problems and associated clinical risks.
- Knowledge of appropriate legislation e.g. current Mental Health Act legislation, safeguarding legislation and other policy related to mental health.
- Excellent assessment and analytical skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Evidence of substantial experience as a qualified clinician.
- Mental health care/treatment relevant to service.
- Multi‑agency working / working across service interfaces within a health and social care setting.
- Experience of assessing and managing risk.
- Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff.
- Experience of teaching/leadership of others.
- Older adult age‑related common physical / mental health conditions.
- Demonstrated a preference to work in the intended speciality.
- Specialist knowledge & experience of evidence‑based interventions in the treatment of Complex Emotional Needs, e.g. Structured Clinical Management, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapies.
Knowledge
- Evidenced based clinical interventions relevant to the service and role.
- Relevant specialist clinical courses/training.
- Trauma Informed Care Models of care and treatment relevant to working with people in mental health crisis.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- An understanding of current mental health disorder / issues.
- Up to date clinical knowledge including risk assessment, complex health and social care needs.
- Knowledge of System One Electronic Patient records.
- Knowledge and understanding of the roles of other professionals working within mental health setting across health and social care.

Salary: £39,959 to £48,117 a year, pro rata
