Registered Community Mental Health Nurse (Older People)
Band: 5 (NHS AfC) – Permanent contract – 37.5 hours per week (Mon‑Fri 9am‑5pm). Salary: £32,073 – £39,043 per annum. Closing date: 05/05/2026.
Job Overview
Work in the Amber Valley Older Adult Community Mental Health Team, providing care for older adults with mental health needs. The role involves assessment, care planning, medication management, risk assessment, and therapeutic communication with service users and their families.
Main Duties
- Assess, plan and review care for older adults with mental health conditions.
- Deliver depot injections and other medication as required.
- Maintain therapeutic relationships with service users and carers.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and voluntary partners.
- Provide regular clinical, managerial and peer supervision.
- Support the development of new nurses through a structured preceptorship programme.
- Travel within the geographical area to meet service users and facilitate transport when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Nurse (mental health); registration with HMI/ NMC.
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing (or equivalent). Willingness to undertake assessor qualification.
- Knowledge of mental health legislation and Care Programme Approach (CPA).
- Experience of safety planning, risk management and person‑centred practice.
- Understanding of older adult complexities and the ability to work safely independently (lone working).
- Works well in a team and is able to drive or transport independently within a large area.
- Evidence of IT skills for documentation and clinical data entry.
