Job Description:

Senior Business Development Manager / Commercial Manager

North West – Hybrid

Transport, Warehousing & Logistics

Up to £75,000 base salary plus bonus and car allowance

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial professional who is ready to take on a broader and more commercially rounded position.

Our client is an established UK and international transport and warehousing business currently progressing through an ambitious period of investment, integration and transformation. The business has a strong operational platform, an established customer base and a growing national network. Its focus is now on developing a more coordinated and sophisticated commercial offering across transport, warehousing and wider supply chain services.

The role will initially concentrate on identifying, developing and securing new business opportunities across the North West. However, the position has been designed to offer considerably more scope than a traditional Business Development Manager role.

Working closely with the Sales Director, local General Managers and wider operational teams, the successful candidate will gradually assume greater responsibility for commercial planning, account development, customer strategy and regional growth.

This will particularly suit a successful Senior BDM who wants to broaden their experience and progress towards a Commercial Manager, Regional Commercial Manager or Sales leadership position.

The Opportunity

The role will involve developing new customer relationships while also helping the business improve how it manages, grows and retains its existing commercial portfolio.

You will work across a range of transport, warehousing and network-based solutions, identifying where the wider capabilities of the Group can provide additional value to customers.

As your understanding of the business develops, the role will expand to include greater involvement in commercial strategy, pricing, pipeline management, account planning and the development of regional growth plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and secure new business opportunities across transport, warehousing and wider logistics services..
  • Build senior-level relationships with prospective and existing customers.
  • Work closely with operational leaders to create practical, competitive and deliverable customer solutions.
  • Support the development and growth of existing customer accounts.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities across the wider Group network.
  • Contribute to customer pricing, proposals, tenders and commercial negotiations.
  • Develop clear account plans for strategically important customers and prospects.
  • Provide accurate pipeline forecasting, market intelligence and competitor insight.
  • Support the development of regional commercial plans and growth priorities.
  • Attend relevant industry events, customer meetings and networking opportunities.
  • Gradually take on broader responsibility for commercial performance, account development and regional growth.

The Profile

You will be an experienced commercial professional with a strong track record of winning and developing B2B business.

Ideally, you will already have experience within transport, warehousing, logistics, freight or supply chain services. Applications may also be considered from candidates who have sold complex outsourced services into logistics-led customer environments and contract led B2B.

You are likely to have:

  • At least five to seven years’ experience in business development, commercial sales or account growth.
  • A demonstrable record of securing new business and developing existing customer relationships.
  • Experience of managing longer and more complex sales cycles.
  • Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of pricing, margin and operational delivery.
  • The ability to engage confidently with senior customers and internal stakeholders.
  • A structured approach to pipeline management, forecasting and account planning.
  • The ambition to develop beyond a pure new-business role into a broader commercial leadership position.

The Person

You will be proactive, commercially curious and comfortable operating with a high level of personal responsibility.

You will also bring:

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • High personal and professional standards.
  • Credibility with both customers and operational teams.
  • Resilience, energy and a positive approach.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail.
  • The ability to balance new-business activity with longer-term commercial development.
  • A genuine desire to contribute to the wider growth and development of the business.

The Reward

  • Base salary of £65,000 to £75,000, dependent upon experience.
  • Car allowance.
  • Performance-related bonus of up to 20%.
  • Pension and wider company benefits.
  • Hybrid working model.
  • Travel across the North West and occasional travel to other UK sites.
  • Genuine opportunity to progress into a broader Commercial Manager or commercial leadership role.

This is a particularly exciting time to join the business. The Group is operating under strong leadership, investing across its network and building a more integrated commercial structure to support its next phase of growth.

For an ambitious Senior Business Development Manager who wants greater influence, broader commercial exposure and a clear route towards commercial leadership, this represents an excellent long-term career opportunity.
