Job Description:

Fire Engineer – Building Safety & Remediation

£70,000 – £120,000 + car/allowance, bonus, healthcare | Home-based (nationwide) | Leading residential contractor

This is an working with a residential focused principal contractor in an established Building Safety team, focused purely on remediation across mid and high-rise residential buildings UK-wide. You’d be the technical fire authority across a national portfolio of re-cladding and remediation schemes, working with major housing associations and development clients on some of the most significant building safety programmes in the country.

What you’d actually be doing

Developing and reviewing fire strategies for buildings undergoing façade remediation, and leading the technical fire input into Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 submissions to the BSR. You’ll assess non-compliant cladding systems (ACM, HPL and the rest) and shape the remediation approach, working to PAS 9980 and the wider HRB regime. There’s real breadth: compartmentation, means of escape, passive and active protection, EWS1 assessments, interim measures for occupied buildings mid-works, and keeping the Golden Thread intact throughout. You’ll coordinate with design teams, contractors and specialist consultants, liaise with Building Control and Fire & Rescue, and act as the technical lead for site and pre-construction teams across the Leeds, Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester and London projects.

Who they’re after

A Chartered Fire Engineer (CEng MIFireE), or someone well on the way to it, with a solid grounding in residential high-rise. Remediation and re-cladding experience is what really sets a candidate apart here, along with genuine command of the Building Safety Act, Gateway and PAS 9980. You’ll need to write a clear technical report and hold your own with a range of stakeholders. Housing association / social landlord exposure is a plus, and ex-Fire Service or Building Control backgrounds are genuinely welcomed. Full UK driving licence, as there’s occasional travel.

The setup

Home-based with flexible working, occasional trips to the London HQ to get the team together. £70k–£120k depending on experience, plus car or allowance, bonus, private healthcare, strong pension and 25 days holiday. And the work itself does what a lot of roles only claim to post-Grenfell remediation that makes thousands of people genuinely safer in their homes.
