Ringway is seeking an experienced and proactive Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our busy Warndon Workshop in Worcester.

This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced workshop professional with strong technical expertise, people management skills, and a passion for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality fleet maintenance operations.

Working closely with the Business Unit Fleet & Plant Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the workshop operates safely, compliantly, and profitably while supporting the delivery of essential highways services across Worcestershire.

About the Role

As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for leading and developing a team of up to 16 mechanics, fitters, apprentices, and supervisors, ensuring the workshop delivers exceptional standards of vehicle maintenance and repair across a diverse fleet that includes HGVs, highways maintenance vehicles, and winter service assets.

You will oversee all aspects of workshop operations, including health and safety compliance, team development, quality control, productivity, resource planning, stock management, and customer service. Acting as the workshop’s technical expert, you will support the team in resolving complex mechanical issues while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.

In addition, you will serve as the Authorised Examiner (AE) for the MOT station, ensuring full compliance with DVSA requirements and maintaining the highest standards of quality and governance

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe and efficient operation of the Warndon Workshop, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and company requirements.
  • Manage and develop a team of up to 16 mechanics, fitters, apprentices, and supervisors, supporting recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, maximising fleet availability and minimising downtime.
  • Work closely with operational teams to support the maintenance of HGVs, highways maintenance vehicles, and winter service fleets.
  • Monitor workshop productivity, costs, and performance, driving continuous improvement and profitability
  • Act as the technical expert for vehicle maintenance and repair, supporting fault diagnosis and best-practice solutions.
  • Oversee workshop facilities, tools, equipment, stock control, and inventory management to ensure operational readiness.
  • Maintain an effective out-of-hours call-out service and support business continuity requirements.
  • Act as Authorised Examiner (AE) for the MOT station, ensuring full compliance with DVSA regulations and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the wider management team to support operational excellence and continuous improvement across the Worcestershire business.

Essential Requirements

  • MOT Station Authorised Examiner (AE).
  • Level 3 Qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Extensive experience maintaining and managing operational fleets, including HGVs and highways maintenance vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of workshop operations, fleet maintenance, and vehicle compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience leading and developing workshop or engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Experience managing workshop productivity, quality standards, and performance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and fleet management systems.
  • Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to drive continuous improvement

Desirable

  • Formal Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience operating as an MOT Authorised Examiner within a commercial workshop environment.
  • Experience implementing LEAN principles and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, stock control, and workshop financial performance reporting.
  • Experience supporting apprenticeship programmes and workforce development initiatives.
