Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our healthcare team at Derwentside IRC, an immigration removal centre in Consett, County Durham. The site supports up to 80 women aged 18+ with primary care, mental health and substance misuse services. In this role you will work with an established, experienced mental health team that delivers nurse‑led care with a medical model diagnosis for complex health needs. The psychiatrist caseload will be 4-5 patients per day.
Hours
- AM session: 08:00 – 12:00
- PM session: 13:00 – 17:00
- Four hours per week (either a Tuesday or a Thursday) or eight hours per fortnight (full day or two separate 4‑hour sessions).
Salary
Annual salary up to £191,000 per annum FTE – depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
- Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite
- Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior clinicians in service developments and provide clinical supervision
- Work within the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments and engage in complex case reviews

Requirements
- Registered professional with current GMC registration
- Specialist registration in either General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
- Approved under section 12(2) of the MHS 1983
- Understanding of the complexities of multi‑disciplinary and multi‑agency working
- Updated knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder
- Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation
