We are seeking an experienced Major Projects Pre-Construction Manager to support the successful mobilisation and delivery of high-voltage (HV/EHV) infrastructure projects across the UK.

This is a key role within a growing delivery function, supporting complex electrical infrastructure schemes including substations, grid connections, renewables, large-scale solar, and data centre projects. The successful candidate will take ownership of the pre-construction phase, ensuring projects are fully prepared for delivery and handed over efficiently to operational teams.

The position requires someone comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple workstreams, and collaborating with internal teams, ICP/DNO stakeholders, and external delivery partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for pre-construction enquiries and design coordination
  • Develop, review, and maintain accurate pre-construction programmes
  • Gather and validate site and technical data to enable accurate estimating and project mobilisation
  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, and external partners to ensure readiness for construction
  • Establish and manage project communication systems, documentation control, and reporting structures
  • Maintain project status reports and monitoring tools
  • Attend project meetings to understand scope, constraints, and delivery requirements
  • Support the preparation of pre-energisation documentation
  • Provide operational and commercial reporting, including progress against programme and budget
  • Support payment milestones and liaise with Project Managers regarding commercial status
  • Assist in project development documentation, design submissions, and stage gate approvals
  • Undertake additional tasks as required to ensure successful project mobilisation and delivery

Required Experience & Skills

  • Extensive project management experience within the electrical utilities sector
  • Experience of HV/EHV infrastructure (33–132kV or above) including substations and grid connections
  • Experience working with or alongside ICPs and/or DNOs
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-million-pound infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of the full project lifecycle from feasibility through to energisation
  • Experience in programme management and forecasting (P&L, progress vs target, budget tracking)
  • Knowledge of Streetworks, permits, and utility regulations
  • Competence in MS Project (or equivalent project management software)
  • Strong stakeholder and client management capability
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and coordination skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and collaboration platforms

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Project Management qualification (PRINCE2, APM, PMI or equivalent experience)
  • SMSTS
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will:

  • Be comfortable operating across complex HV infrastructure environments
  • Understand what “good” looks like in major project mobilisation
  • Be proactive, detail-driven, and commercially aware
  • Thrive in collaborative, multi-stakeholder environments
  • Be flexible and adaptable to varying project requirements
