An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations Manager to join a successful and growing engineering/manufacturing business. This is a key leadership role with a clear pathway to progress into a Managing Director position.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, driving operational excellence, improving profitability, and supporting the long-term strategic growth of the business. This role combines hands-on operational management with senior leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments.
- Ensure operational processes are efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with business objectives.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Monitor operational costs, margins, and overall business profitability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop departmental managers and wider teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Support recruitment, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery.
- Develop, monitor, and improve key operational performance indicators (KPIs).
- Support new product introduction and process development projects.
- Oversee supply chain performance, supplier relationships, and delivery effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across all operational functions.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, regulatory requirements, and health & safety legislation.
About You
You will be an experienced operational leader with a strong background in manufacturing or engineering environments and a proven track record of delivering operational and financial results.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or significant equivalent leadership experience.
- Extensive senior management experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong technical understanding of manufacturing and engineering processes.
- Demonstrable experience achieving operational, financial, and strategic objectives.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems, including AS9100 and/or ISO 9001.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
- Extensive experience using and developing ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
