Job overview

Applications are invited from experienced Substantive Consultant to join the Speciality Medicine Collaborative, here at NCIC. The Neurology service is delivered across a number of outpatient sites and the trust provides an in‑reach service to the two acute hospitals. In addition to managing general Neurology referrals, the trust has developed a number of sub‑specialties and would welcome Neurophysiologists seeking full or part time hours.

Important roles for all Consultant posts include:

  • The appointee will be responsible for the provision of the Neurophysiological Service to the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust
  • Following consultation, to further develop the provision of the Clinical Neurophysiological Services
  • To carry out teaching duties as required and to take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education Programme and in the training programme for Clinical Physiologists
  • To take part in the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust Clinical Governance programme
  • To provide professional and clinical supervision to the Clinical Neurophysiologists
  • To be involved in research where appropriate
  • To actively participate in the management of the services of the Directorate

Please note: You must be on the Specialist Register in order to be eligible for appointment to this level of post.

Main duties of the job

The posts will involve out‑patient and in‑patient consultations. Specific commitments would be agreed in negotiation with colleagues once appointed. There are a number of out‑patients clinics delivered across sites when needed, providing the opportunity to see the landscape of North Cumbria. The department also operates A&G to GP and consultant colleagues within normal office hours.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Entry on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
  • MD or PhD degree
  • Special interest in any area of Neurophysiology

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team
  • Experience of working with primary care / community colleagues
  • Evidence of personal contribution to service development in Neurophysiology

Knowledge

  • Able to complete basic history taking and examination – physical and mental
  • Evidence based practice
  • Specialist training courses relevant to post
  • Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to Clinical Neurophysiology
