Overview

LHH is proud to be acting as the exclusive recruitment partner to a leading UK-based PLC organisation as it continues to strengthen and evolve its Group Legal function.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Compliance Lawyer to play a pivotal role in shaping, driving and embedding legal and regulatory compliance across the business. This position combines strategic influence with hands-on operational responsibility, offering significant exposure to senior stakeholders.

Core Purpose

To ensure the organisation operates in full adherence with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, while maintaining robust internal compliance frameworks and promoting a strong culture of ethical conduct across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, review and maintenance of legal ethics and compliance policies, ensuring alignment with current legislation and regulatory expectations (including AML, anti-bribery & corruption, data protection, modern slavery and competition law).
  • Assess and enhance existing compliance frameworks, controls and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and driving effective implementation of change.
  • Collaborate closely with legal colleagues and business stakeholders to embed practical, scalable compliance solutions across the organisation.
  • Develop and deliver training programmes, guidance materials and awareness initiatives to ensure effective understanding of regulatory obligations.
  • Provide expert advice on compliance breaches and regulatory issues, managing external counsel and subject matter experts where required.
  • Oversee data protection compliance activities, including supervision of data subject access request (DSAR) processes to ensure GDPR obligations are met effectively.
  • Support the Head of Compliance and senior leadership with reporting obligations to Executive Committees, Board and governance forums.
  • Contribute to the wider Group Legal team, supporting broader legal workload where required during peak periods.

Candidate Profile

This opportunity is suited to an experienced compliance or regulatory lawyer, either already working in-house or currently in private practice and seeking to transition into a broader, business-facing role. idea

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • UK qualified lawyer or barrister ideally with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE
  • Strong technical grounding across multiple compliance disciplines
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
