Ringway is seeking an experienced and commercially focused Business Unit Fleet & Plant Manager to lead the management of our Worcestershire fleet and plant operations while overseeing the successful operation of our Warndon Workshop.
This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to influence business performance, drive fleet compliance and safety standards, manage significant budgets, and ensure the delivery of an efficient, profitable, and customer-focused workshop operation serving both internal and external clients
About the Role
As the Business Unit Fleet & Plant Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all fleet and plant assets across the Worcestershire Business Unit are managed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with all legal, operational, and company requirements.
You will lead the strategic and day-to-day management of fleet operations while providing oversight of the Warndon Workshop, which delivers maintenance and repair services to Ringway Highways, Worcestershire County Council, Worcester City Council, and a range of external customers.
Working closely with operational managers, drivers, workshop teams, and senior stakeholders, you will drive continuous improvement, maximise asset utilisation, enhance driver safety, and ensure robust financial and operational performance
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management of the Worcestershire fleet and plant operation, ensuring full compliance with DVSA regulations, Operator Licence requirements, and company policies
- Drive improvements in driver safety, behaviour, and fleet performance using telematics data, reporting, and targeted initiatives
- Manage fleet and plant budgets, asset utilisation, procurement, disposals, and capital investment planning
- Oversee the Warndon Workshop, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of maintenance and repair services to internal and external customers
- Lead and develop workshop and administrative teams, promoting high standards of productivity, service, quality, and compliance
- Act as the subject matter expert for all fleet and plant matters, supporting operational teams and senior management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and key stakeholders
- Contribute as a member of the Business Unit Senior Management Team, supporting operational excellence and continuous improvement across the business
Essential
- CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) – Transport Manager.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Extensive experience managing commercial vehicle fleets.
- Strong knowledge of transport legislation, Operator Licence requirements, DVSA compliance, and health & safety regulations.
- Experience managing budgets, forecasting, and cost control.
- People leadership experience, including managing operational and technical teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Health & Safety qualification.
- Qualification in Business, Logistics, Transport Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience managing workshops or vehicle maintenance operations.
- Knowledge of fleet telematics systems and performance reporting.
