Senior Design Manager – Fire Safety & Remediation
£80,000 to £95,000 plus package
London | Hybrid (3 days office / 2 home)
Most design management roles are about keeping projects moving. This one’s about leading a function and doing work that genuinely matters.
I’m working with a specialist contractor in London who need a Senior Design Manager for their growing team. They focus on recladding and building safety remediation, working alongside leading contractors to deliver compliance-driven schemes across some of London’s most high-profile buildings. This isn’t just another construction niche, get it right and people sleep safer in their own homes. That’s the job.
The Role
You’ll walk in with two Design Coordinators reporting to you from day one, both already running their own projects, and you’ll work closely with the Head of Design to grow the team from there including two Senior Design Coordinators joining over the coming months.
Day to day, you’ll oversee design delivery across several remediation and fire safety projects at once – coordinating consultants, fire engineers and specialist subcontractors, keeping technical packages moving through Gateway with the Golden Thread intact, and making sure what gets designed is compliant, buildable and right first time. You’ll also have a real hand in how the design function develops as the business grows. It’s a proper leadership role, not just a title.
What They’re Looking For
This could suit one of two people. Either someone already operating at senior design management level in construction, building safety or remediation who fancies a fresh challenge with a growing specialist. Or someone sitting just below that level who’s ready to step up into their first proper leadership role.
Either way, you’ll need solid design management experience on complex construction projects, the stakeholder skills to keep clients, consultants and contractors pulling the same way, and the technical confidence to handle demanding schemes. Remediation or building safety experience Gateway 2, FRAEW / PAS 9980, fire strategies, EWS is a real bonus, but not essential if the rest of your background’s strong. They’ll back the right person to get up to speed.
The Setup
Three days in a Central London office, two from home. The culture’s progressive and they genuinely don’t micromanage you’ll be trusted to get on with it. The team’s growing fast, and the progression on offer is real, not the kind that just sounds good in a job ad.
