Job Overview

Deputy Directorate Manager – Surgical Division. Responsible for operational delivery across a portfolio of surgical services including theatres, anaesthetics, pain management and critical care. Works within a high‑performing team to improve service quality and support career progression to an operational director role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational management of assigned surgical services, including finance, activity and performance management.
  • Support business planning and deputise for the Directorate Manager as required.
  • Manage key projects and lead work streams to achieve deliverables and service targets.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams, senior colleagues and external partners to implement change and drive performance.
  • Ensure compliance with TT, cancer targets, health & safety and governance standards.
  • Provide strategic direction towards the expansion of theatre capacity and service development.

Person Specification – Qualifications

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience.
  • Postgraduate qualification in health service management or equivalent, preferred.
  • Existing UK right to work at the time of application.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Complex operational management experience in a hospital environment.
  • Staff, financial and change management capability.
  • Knowledge of planned care, RTT and cancer targets.
  • Demonstrated leadership, influencing and communication skills.
  • Advanced analytical, project planning and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Intermediate IT skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
