Job Overview
Senior Buying Manager (Category Manager) – a commercially minded role responsible for maximising profitability of specified product categories, enhancing customer satisfaction and driving cash profit across the business. You will own category performance, developing strategies, optimising ranges and delivering sustainable growth in a fast‑paced wholesale/retail environment.
Location
This role can be based out of Wellingborough, Eccles or Watford.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category plans ensuring sales, margin and profit targets are met while maintaining product availability.
- Grow own brand business through appropriate sourcing to increase sales and margins.
- Negotiate annually with suppliers to secure competitive terms.
- Respond to customer feedback to shape category plans, linking to sales and customer satisfaction.
- Handle customer queries and complaints professionally and promptly.
- Communicate category plans and objectives to relevant teams, ensuring understanding and buy‑in.
- Maintain product range aligned with good, better and best principles in business centres.
- Identify opportunities and develop or improve ways of working as part of the team.
- Adhere to the Business Code of Conduct, acting with integrity, due diligence and championing diversity and inclusion.
Qualifications
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management.
- Independent, problem‑solving mindset with ability to make commercial decisions.
- Strong attention to detail, proficient in reporting, data interpretation and record keeping.
- Up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant markets and developments.
- Flexible work approach.
- Previous experience buying fresh products preferred.
- Extensive experience in the food supply chain (FMG).
- Proven record of working autonomously.
