Job Overview
We are currently seeking skilled Commercial Managers with a strong background in procurement to join our growing Defence Team. The role will require 60% site work from a client site near one of our regional offices.
Important Eligibility
Important: Due to the sensitive nature of these projects, you must be a sole UK National capable of achieving and maintaining UK Ministry of Defence Security Clearance (SC).
Job Objectives
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to public and private sector Defence clients.
- Support pre-sourcing activities such as market engagement, business case development, exit and transition planning.
- Lead sourcing activities through to contract award—including defining and implementing commercial and procurement strategies, tendering, and evaluation.
- Develop negotiation strategy and robust terms and conditions.
- Manage change control, track and document changes, administer early warning provisions, and negotiate contractual changes.
- Oversee post-contract award activities: contract management, data collection, performance management plans, and benchmarking.
- Implement effective contract management processes and systems.
- Develop and report on contract progress and performance indicators, using contract management software.
- Prepare written communication and formal reports focused on contract administration.
- Liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders—clients, contractors, and designers.
Qualifications
- Proven track record in commercial management with specialist knowledge in procurement, supply chain management, or quantity surveying within defence or regulated sectors.
- Experience in procurement, contract management, and/or contract placement (sole source and competitive markets).
- Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 and/or JCT contract frameworks.
- Familiarity with UK Government procurement processes such as Qualifying Defence Contracts (QDC), Defence and Security Public Contracting Regulations (DSPCR), and Public Contract Regulations (PCR).
- A degree or professional qualification in commercial management, procurement, business, law, project management, or a similar discipline.
- Holding or working towards a formal professional qualification such as CIPS.
Key Requirements
- Obtain and maintain the required security clearance; preferably hold SC status on application.
- Must be a sole British National residing in the UK.
- Ability to travel to client sites across the UK 2–3 days per week.
