The purpose of the Group Customs Trade Optimisation Manager is to support the Kingfisher Group entities to achieving a high level of customs compliance and governance whilst optimising any commercial opportunities related to customs and international cross border trade. The role will ensure that all classification and customs related data is captured, maintained and utilised in a compliant and efficient way that drives a right first-time approach. Additionally, the requirement to identify threats or opportunities that may impact the Group and supporting business change is an integral part of the role. This will create a foundation to allow the introduction of suitable technology solutions to better support the compliance and commercial requirements related to customs and international trade compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support BAU processes to gather and maintain compliant customs and trade data.
  • Improve and measure levels of customs optimisation across the Group working towards one consistent way of working with RACI clearly defined and understood.
  • Managing and measuring performance of external and internal partners and brokers. Building and managing KPI’s both internally and externally.
  • Manage key processes including data auditing, maintenance and reporting. Identify and correct data inconsistencies using large data sets and internal tools.
  • Build relationships with sourcing to guide them through cross border considerations and collaborate cross-functionally with Sourcing, Supply Chain, Tax and Finance functions.
  • Ensuring changes to applicable legislation/rules/classifications are monitored and updates are communicated and applied.
  • Support the eventual implementation and development of technology based solutions to improve the efficiency and accuracy of classifications.
  • Providing support for operation and maintenance of software systems (databases) containing commodity codes, duty/ADD rates, preference/FTA and Y codes.
  • Deliver training workshops to ensure the wider business understand classification and customs requirement.
  • Supporting the Head of Customs to provide expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders across banner and Group to drive compliance and commercial benefits.

Qualifications

  • A detail-oriented problem solver with strong Excel /MS Office skills (VLOOKUPs, formulas etc).
  • Experience working with complex data sets—ideally within retail or supply chain.
  • Ability to build good working relationships, both internal and external.
  • Knowledge of import/export operations and specifically detailed working knowledge of customs classification rules.
  • Be solution and data driven, harnessing technology and automation.
  • Ability to determine service and performance measures, initiating solutions.
  • Continuous improvement, growth and high-performance mindset, data driven harnessing technology and automation.
  • Commercial awareness with a compliance and optimisation focus.
  • Organised and able to prioritise in a fast-paced demanding corporate environment.
  • Able to take direction but equally happy to challenge the status quo.
