Job Description:

Our client has an opportunity for a Production Test Engineer to join them on a contract opportunity in Bolton for 12 months. You will be acting as technical support to the manufacturing test of weapons sub‑systems in production and development test and diagnostics of complex weapons at system and sub‑system level.

Role: Production Test Engineer

Location: Bolton, fully onsite

Hours: 37 per week

Hourly Rate: £34‑£37 per hour via Umbrella, inside IR35

Clearance: BPSS required before starting, full SC to follow

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide Test Engineering support during Design / Development phases from initial concept through to Production Readiness Review and release to Operations.
  • Support Test Facility introduction and ensure that configuration control of equipment and facilities is in place prior to use, including generating supporting test specifications and operator instructions.
  • Support testing of electrical/electronic weapon systems and sub‑assemblies, diagnosing production test failures down to circuit card and potentially component level.
  • Identify remedial and corrective actions in a timely manner allowing Manufacturing to continue production in line with programme.
  • Evaluate technical problems to develop proposals for test equipment investigations and corrective actions, including process improvements.
  • Act as Test Engineering representative at Defect Review Board meetings to ensure efficient progress of equipment and quality notifications towards corrective action.

Requirements:

  • HND or HNC in a relevant Engineering Subject
  • A good understanding of measurement and test principles, and associated test equipment.
  • Understanding of the typical CADMID product lifecycle for test equipment is desirable.
  • Understanding of RF and microwave technology at subsystem level would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of Environmental testing (including ESS) would also be an advantage.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including generation of test specifications, operator instructions and technical reports based on higher-level requirements.
  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and organise own work so multiple tasks can be prioritised and delivered against project objectives.
  • Manual handling training.
  • ESD training.
  • Medical requirements.
